After having years of good service from MrClutch, took my car for a MOT, car failed on Air bag light on, 2 outer sill with holes in and a tyre below the recommended tread depth. Was spoken down to by a young lad, that told me the sills would cost at least £800 to repair, and could be a lot, lot more than this if the inner sills were in bad shape, also he went on, and on and on about the dangers of a bald tyre. Being very old, and very , very wise, decided to take my car somewhere else for a quote, this happened as lockdown was about to start, was quoted £400 all in for the sills and air bag. Unfortunately the garage closed due to lockdown, before they could do the work. So after having very good service from MrClutch on this occasion I received very bad service from MrClutch. In the end I decided to do the job myself, purchasing two new sills, and borrowing a welding machine and helmet, cost of both sills was £75, these were lazer cut and shaped to fit my car perfectly, it did take me a few attempts to get the welding right, the inner sills were in good condition, so only the outer sills needed replacing, so this job cost me £75 for both sills and £10 for the welding rods, the air bag light problem turned out to be a faulty connection underneath both front seats, tyre still had plenty of tread on it, so I could not understand why it was a failure. Took car to another garage for the MOT, and it passed.
